Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
