Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
