Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
