Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
