Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
