Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
