Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
