Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
