Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
