August 30th, 2025 at 1:25

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
